Dear Aviation Colleagues and Esteemed AfBAA Members

Welcome to AfBAA (African Business Aviation Association).

As I address to all of you for the first time as the Chair Person for our great association allow me to say that I am truly honoured to have been worthy of your trust, and by electing me as the Association Chair, the first female in such role, I vow to all of you to continue, as My company and I have done since the beginning of our Association in the role of a founding member, to promote aviation development throughout Africa.

The elections for governing bodies African Business Aviation Association (AfBAA) in May 2023, by AfBAA’s Board of Directors during the European Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva, Switzerland, demonstrates the organization´s commitment to proper governance and the value of a democratic and transparent process, a sign of maturity and credibility of our Association.

With an experience in the aviation industry of over 20 years, early in my career have worked in Angola as Chief of Department for ExxonMobil Corporation and in Portugal in Flight services coordinator and maintenance controller for NetJets Europe, and for the last 14 years I have served as Executive Director and Vice-Chair of the BestFly Global Aviation Conglomerate, and have been a Founding Member of AfBAA and part of its board since the beginning of the association. I have also worked closely with International Women in Aviation Association and hope to bring this into the fold of AfBAA.

My immediate goals as AfBAA Chair are to make the Association more relevant to its members and to ensure its financial sustainability, whilst leaving a legacy for the future and ensuring its continuity as the “go to” stakeholder for the Business and General Aviation Industry in the continent. For that We look forward to working with different associations in the international aviation context and promote equality and fairness throughout.

Another key decision was to expand the AfBAA membership to embrace both business and general aviation in Africa. To provide a platform for both individuals and companies wanting to contribute to aviation on the continent, by creating value, with a more appealing membership fee structure, and increasing business opportunities for every member while contributing to improving the Safety and Operational track record of our continent´s business and general aviation operations.

AfBAA also aims to maintain close ties with African and international regulatory bodies, including the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) and the African Union (AU). We are also looking at expanding to have a healthy working relationship with all civil aviation’s and ensure that communication is available for our members.

AfBAA is committed to encouraging its members to adopt IBAC’s International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) and the International Standard for Business Aircraft Handlers (IS-BAH) as the benchmarks of excellence for business and general aviation in Africa.

Following the restructuring of AfBAA, we are optimistic that the implementation of the Association’s key objectives will provide a solid foundation for it to carry on growing and prosper in all aspects of aviation.

Do join us in building a strong Association dedicated to supporting and promoting business and general aviation in Africa.

With best regards,

Alcinda Pereira
AfBAA Chair
