General Manager at Airports Company South Africa
Deon Cloete is the General Manager at Airports Company South Africa, Cape Town International Airport. He has 29 years’ experience in the airport and aviation industry; his extensive experience is further enhanced by having served in the fields of both airports and airlines.
The highlight for Deon was being part of a broader Management Team that created, established and developed the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) into what it is today with assets totalling R30 billion and an annual turnover of R8 billion. The company was created from start, transformed to what was previously a public utility subsidised by government to what it is today, a sustainable commercial entity, profitable and in the habit of providing world class infrastructure and services.
Deon has served at all of the ACSA Airports; initially at the then Johannesburg International Airport as a member of the Management Team until 1999; he then served as GM for Durban International and National Airports i.e. 2001 to 2008; and most recently Cape Town International Airport after his appointment as GM in August 2008. During 2000/2001 Deon was seconded to South African Airways where he served in the capacity of General Manager: Passenger Support Services.
Deon has been an ACSA Executive for the last 15 years. Deon was the Chairperson of Cape Town Routes Unlimited (CTRU); the Destination Marketing Organisation for the Western Cape and served on the Board of Wesgro. He currently serves on the Boards of the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) and the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).
